ABOUT US ACTIVITIES

The core of the Taub Center research program is the analysis of social expenditure in the State budget. This program encompasses ongoing short-term and long-term analyses of the effects of social policies on the public whether they be intentional or the result of economic or social processes. The Center's annual analysis is utilized by the Ministry of Finance Budget Bureau and is quoted extensively during the annual debate on the national budget.

The Center's annual research program is built along a unifying thematic axis, within a broader, multi-annual perspective. In recent years the Center has addressed issues such as social pluralism focusing on sweeping social changes that are leading toward increasing pluralism and heterogeneity in critical fields in the Israeli society. Another issue that has been addressed extensively is equity in Israeli society in terms of the distribution of resources among the various population groups. Center experts have examined the differences in access to health services, education and housing, governmental resource allocation to local authorities, and capitation methods for financing health care. Recently, Center experts have been taking a multidisciplinary approach to the issue of the effects of privatization and specifically, privatization of social services. Center Area Teams are continually monitoring the impacts of economic and monetary policies upon social welfare. In all these fields, alternative policies developed by the Center are presented to the governmental and legislative decision makers.

The Taub Center’s Annual Public Forum, held under the auspices of the President of Israel, remains a major feature of the Center’s work. The forum provides a unique opportunity for government officials, Knesset members, professionals, and members of academia to meet for free and open discussions providing a wider perspective on the impact of economic and social policy decisions.

The Center serves as a reliable resource of professional data to various Knesset committees and other national bodies and has assisted committees such as the Committee of Inquiry on the growing economic gaps in Israeli society, The Commission for Future Generations, The National Security Council and the National Council for Higher Education.

Taub Center serves the leadership of the Diaspora by putting developments in Israel into a wider perspective. Through English language publications, its website and email updates, the Center provides up-to-date analyses and perspectives on the Israeli socio-economic scene to all those interested in the Israel that lies beyond the headlines. Center experts are also available for speaking to missions and groups both in and outside of Israel.
