Prof. Alex Weinreb, Chair of the Taub Center Demography Area and Research Director at the Center, met with staff of the State Comptroller’s office and discussed Israel’s unique demographics, including fertility and how the population composition today is likely to impact us in the future.
At the meeting, Prof. Alex Weinreb said: “In Israel, as opposed to other places in the world, what sets the level of fertility of Jewish women is the level of religious observance, and not the level of education. Also, the fertility patterns are different from those of Jewish women in the diaspora, especially among secular and traditional women. There is no doubt that we are seeing the influence of Israeli culture here.”
