Many of these trends continue to be extremely relevant as Israel celebrates its 71<sup>st<\/sup> birthday, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.taubcenter.org.il\/state-of-the-nation-2018-eng\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">our newest research studies<\/a><\/span> expand and build upon these findings:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RV1HGcsQnLs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The standard of living has continued to grow in Israel, as has the country\u2019s GDP. However, growth potential is declining, in large part because Israel\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.taubcenter.org.il\/economic-developments-in-israel-an-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">labor productivity is not growing<\/a><\/span> at all.<\/li>\n<li>Rates of poverty and inequality in Israel remain among the highest in the OECD. While the share of families living in poverty has remained fairly stable over the past number of decades \u2013 at about 20% \u2013 trends in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.taubcenter.org.il\/material-assistance-to-people-living-in-poverty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poverty policy and material assistance<\/a><\/span> to impoverished families have changed over time.<\/li>\n<li>Israelis are spending more and more out-of-pocket on their health. This is an indication of larger structural challenges in Israel\u2019s healthcare system that stem from the level of health funding and the system\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.taubcenter.org.il\/healthcare-in-israel-an-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">public-private mix<\/a><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>There has been an increase, particularly in Arab education, in the share of high school students studying in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.taubcenter.org.il\/technological-education-eng\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">high technological tracks<\/a><\/span> \u2013 which may have an impact on the ability to integrate into high-paying professions in the future. However, there are still large differences in the share of students studying in high technological education across sectors and genders.<\/li>\n<li>While <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.taubcenter.org.il\/israels-labor-market-an-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">employment rates<\/a><\/span> have increased overall, not all population groups are reaching the 2020 employment rate goals set by the government \u2013 Arab Israeli women are nearing the target of 41%, yet Haredi men remain far from the target of 63%, with a current employment rate of about 48%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Keep an eye out for the Taub Center\u2019s upcoming <em>Picture
