Our recent research on Israel’s Southern District has been the topic of many of our recent meetings. Among others, Prof. Alex Weinreb, Research Director at the Taub Center and author of the study, met with the Mayor of Arad, Nisan Ben-Hamo, MK Ibtisam Mara’ana (Labor), and Dr. Shai Sofer, the Chief Scientist at the Ministry of Transportation, to share the study’s findings.
“Those who have migrated to Israel’s Southern District are much more likely to have at least a Bachelor’s degree, which fits general patterns elsewhere in the world, where more educated people are more likely to migrate. But when we examined the characteristics of their parents, we see that they tend to be relatively of a lower education level. That is, those who migrate to the Southern District tend to be first-generation in higher education, relative to those who migrate to other districts.” – Prof. Alex Weinreb
