Chair of the Taub Center Health Policy Program, Prof. Nadav Davidovitch, participated in a tour of Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva by the Special Knesset Committee for Strengthening and Developing the Negev and the Galilee.
Members of the committee, headed by MK Michael Biton, arrived at the hospital to see the increase in the labor force in person. The committee is discussing the construction of a new hospital in the Negev and the unique characteristics for its building. Prof. Davidovitch, who is also a committee member, presented data from the Taub Center on narrowing gaps in the health system. He remarked: “The government decision to build an additional hospital in the Negev was made in 2014 and as of now, nothing has happened. Studies over the years show the importance of planning for manpower in light of the demographic processes of an aging labor force as well as the issue of reforms whereby medical students who received their training abroad in medical schools of a lower caliber are not accepted to join the medical ranks immediately. This is an extremely important issue.”
