
Professor John Gal, Chair of the Taub Center Welfare Policy Program , has been selected as Chairman of the Advisory Academic Committee to MK Meir Cohen, the Minister of Welfare and Social Affairs. The committee held its first meeting this month. Its function is to advise on welfare policy and the ministry’s activities. It is composed of leading researchers in the areas of welfare and social work from all of the universities, some of whom are also fellows of the Taub Center’s Welfare Policy Program. At the meeting, the Minister brought up a number of welfare issues and made use of data from the study, Socioeconomic Profile of the South, carried out by Taub Center Research Director Professor Alex Weinreb.
